Bookmarks 2011-2012
Ten thrilled 2011 BOOK MARK WINNERS were selected from over 5,000 creative entries, thoroughly challenging the panel of judges. Each winning bookmark was chosen as an innovative and personal expression of the magic of reading for fun.
Every year RIFSoCal invites children at all participating sites to design a black and white bookmark to illustrate why they think reading is FUNdamental and important. RIFSoCal’s creative artist and partner, Oscar Cux, lovingly colorizes each drawing, generating 10 truly amazing masterpieces. 360,000 copies of the winning design are printed and distributed to more than 100,000 children during the program year every time they choose a new, free book! Winners also receive 50 copies of their bookmark to share with relatives, classmates and friends. We invite you to enjoy the winners…

Thank You, RIF!
We receive many, many thank you notes, but this one says it all!
“Thank you for allowing us to be part of RIF. Our students were thrilled to receive free books once again. They form little clusters with their new books on the rug in the book distribution room as they wait for classmates to make their selections. Students read to one another or look at the books friends have chosen. There is plenty of chatter as they admire the books and dive into their selections. It is my favorite part of this program, and we see it in every pre-K, kinder and first grade classroom (that’s all we have!). They are sharing the joy of new readers who can access a new book!” ~Anne Barry, LAUSD
Tommy, the Throwaway Dog
RIFSoCal is proud to highlight Tommy the Throwaway Dog, Laura Marlowe’s beautifully written, compassionate story for children. The book chronicles what can happen to animals if people don’t treat them with kindness in a positive and loving way. Tommy inspires children to think about the value of pets and enables children to take action to prevent cruelty from happening in their community. Profits from the sale of the book are donated to Hope Animal Rescues and other animal welfare organizations. Visit www.tommythethrowawaydog.com to learn more about giving needy animals a 2nd chance.
